Warren S. Tamke founded Tamke Tree Experts; incorporating in 1967 with little more than a phone, a card table and a dream. His love for trees and attention to “proper” care, not only helped to nurture the plants but also the relationships with our customers. His teachings still resonate among our long-time employees who remember him fondly.
Today, with New Jersey Certified Tree Experts, ISA Certified Arborists and Certified Tree Care Safety Professionals on staff; we have the expertise and experience to provide accurate tree and shrub care for all our clients. Tamke Tree Experts employs approximately 40 people year round. We share our knowledge and love for plants through the care we offer our customers. We participate in community events and fundraisers to benefit education and research for our most valuable resource—TREES!

Hiring an arborist is an important investment into your property. Tree work should be performed only by those that have been properly trained and equipped to work safely in trees. Tamke Tree Experts is a registered New Jersey Tree Care Company (NJTC), and as such, is certified to perform all arboricultural services to promote beautiful and healthy plants.
A Licensed business is required to provide safe work and proper training. A licensed business must carry minimum levels of liability insurance and provide proof of adherence to workers compensation rules. A licensed business must have at least one licensed tree expert (LTE) on staff—Tamke currently has five (5).
Licensing requirements are in place to protect the consumer. Licensing requirements necessitate continuing education to help keep our tree experts abreast of new techniques, equipment and research findings. Further, Licensing helps to create a better trained and more knowledgeable workforce.

Licensed New Jersey Arborist
Tamke was one of the first companies in New Jersey to be accredited by the Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA) for adherence to Ethical Business Practices and provision of Quality Services.
The TCIA, a national association with over 2,000 member companies, develops safety and education programs and helps to ensure the standards set for the tree care industry. The accreditation is a voluntary process developed to verify “best practices” by tree care companies and to safeguard the consumers. Our customers can rest assured that they are receiving the “best of the best” with Tamke.
The accreditation represents those companies that meet TCIA’s highest standards for Ethics, Quality and Confidence. Once approved, the accredited company undergoes an audit every three years which includes: consumer satisfaction, best business practices, business ethics, employee training, safety, quality, industry standards, arborist certifications, insurance coverage, work estimates and specifications.
We share our pride in this accreditation with all our employees and our customers. We hope that more companies will apply for accreditation. With more than 30 years at Tamke Tree Experts, Chris serves as Vice President and brings a wealth of experience to every project. A U.S. Army veteran and former combat infantryman who served with the 101st Airborne during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Chris carries the same discipline and focus into his work at Tamke.
He leads with integrity, ensuring each customer receives honest recommendations and professional care. Living in Lebanon Township, Chris enjoys time outdoors with his family — hunting, fishing, camping, and woodworking. When he’s not working with trees, you’ll likely find him coaching soccer or building something by hand. His mix of leadership, practical know-how, and deep respect for nature reflects the foundation Tamke was built on.
Sam Burd
ARBORIST CONSULT
Sam is a Certified Arborist, NJ Licensed Tree Expert, and Licensed Pesticide Applicator with a unique background that blends technical skill and people-centered insight. Before joining Tamke Tree Experts, Sam earned his master’s degree in Counseling — an experience that shaped his empathetic, relationship-based approach to tree care.
He began climbing trees at age 26 and quickly built a reputation for diligence, curiosity, and professionalism. Sam believes that every customer deserves both expert care and genuine connection. In his spare time, he enjoys exercising, hiking, playing piano, and watching movies — a balance of focus and creativity that defines his work in the field.
Richard Wheeler

Rich has dedicated more than four decades to professional tree care and the preservation of healthy landscapes. After earning degrees in Forestry and Natural Resource Management from Paul Smith’s College and Rutgers University, Rich joined Tamke Tree Experts in 1977 under founder Warren Tamke. He has been a New Jersey Licensed Tree Expert since 1982 and an ISA Certified Arborist since 1990.
With nearly fifty years of field experience, Rich specializes in pest and insect management, disease diagnosis, and expert witness consultation. His knowledge, integrity, and steady leadership have made him a cornerstone of Tamke’s team. Outside of work, Rich is an accomplished endurance athlete who has completed numerous triathlons, marathons, and open-water swims. He also volunteers his time to assist community causes and share his love of trees with others.

Lenny has spent more than two decades in the green industry, building a career rooted in hands-on experience and genuine passion for arboriculture. He began as a landscaper in his hometown before joining Tamke Tree Experts, where he worked across every service line — from plant health care to general tree care.
Now a NJ Licensed Tree Expert, ISA Certified Arborist, and Certified Treecare Safety Professional, Lenny also holds a NJ Pesticide Applicator license. Known for his approachable style and technical precision, he thrives on helping clients create safe, healthy outdoor environments. Lenny and his wife Marissa live in the Morris/Somerset County area, where they enjoy spending time outdoors with family and friends, having recently welcomed their first child.
Rich Huber
Sales Representative
Rich started at Tamke in 1995 and was a Production Supervisor for over 20 years. He became a Certified Tree Expert in 2003 and has continued to earn many other credentials throughout his career. He loves training climbers, focusing on safety and new climbing techniques, and sharing the knowledge and expertise he’s acquired over the years. He appreciates the friendships he’s able to form with his long-term and new customers.
Rich has been married since 2002 and has two sons. He loves to spend time with his family, and his hobbies include knife collecting, strength training, and riding electric unicycles.
